Highlands Ranch, Colorado
Highlands Ranch ranked 12th in the Money Magazine list of the Top 100 Best Places to Live in the USA, is a 22,000-acre master-planned community which was founded in 1981. The community boasts a population of 93,477 in 29,040 single family homes and 3,305 apartments. Highlands Ranch is located 12 miles south of Denver in Douglas County and offers a wonderful quality of life and opportunities for an active lifestyle. The trail system of almost 58 miles in Highlands Ranch features concrete, crusher fine (gravel) and single track trails for a variety of users. These trails serve an important role in our community for recreation and transportation purposes. Highlands Ranch features 22 parks in the community, from the popular neighborhood parks nestled around the community to the larger parks that feature diverse amenities, there are parks for all outdoor interests.
The Metro District has also designated three sites in Highlands Ranch as community gardens. Each site accommodates 22 to 32 gardeners, providing space, amended soil, a water source, and a fenced area in which to grow fruits, flowers and vegetables from May 1 through October 31 each year. The gardens are strictly organic. No chemical pesticides or fertilizers are permitted.
Highlands Ranch is also home to fine golf course communities including the Links at Highlands Ranch.
The Metro District of Highlands Ranch is the local government in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Seven elected board members represent the citizens of Highlands Ranch.
